In what ways do you think hurricane Irma will affect our community in the future?

Hurricane Irma will affect our community in the future. The trees that fell became new beautiful trees. The flooded roads became new and safe. Some homes were bad; but in the future, the houses are better than ever. Animals are dying, but in the future all animals are safe and healthy.
-Chaniah G., Ms. Whelan's class

Irma killed many trees; but in the future, the trees will grow back again. The houses fell or got damaged, and people rebuild homes. Animals did die, but I think people will help them if they are endangered. Lots of [rain] flooded animals homes. In the future, animals will find new homes.
-Calvin M., Ms. Whelan's class

Hurricane Irma affected our community. Hurricane Irma made sinkholes in the ground. Some trees got messed up. Next year, I think there will be growth where there were dead limbs. Another thing is a squirrel went into my neighbor's garage. Roads were flooded, and I think in a couple of years they will be fine.
-Morgan A., Ms. Sarus class

Hurricane Irma will affect our community in the future. The trees will grow back to normal There is water in the homes, but in the future the water might go away. The animals that lost their homes in the future might find a new home or build a new home.

How do animals react to a hurricane?

Illustration by Elijah P., Miss Bakhuizen's class.
Animals react differently during a hurricane. The animals sensed that something was happening outside. The birds react to the hurricane. They either go east, south, west, [or] north. So they would go out of Florida.
-Jamison J. Ms. Bakhuizen's class.

Animals reacted differently during Hurricane Irma. Some animals went with their owners to a safer place. Others probably escaped and found better shelter. Some could have hibernated. Animals have many different thoughts and that means they could have done more things than what I listed.
-Stefanie R., Ms. Bakhuizen's class.
